Don’t be fooled by this pretty face.  It’s the face of evil.  If you haven’t met yet, it’s Maggie Gallagher, who is most succintly described as Anita Bryant for the New Millenium without the orange juice.  The head of the National Organization for Marriage, Maggie has launched two scary anti-marriage radio ads in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine which predictably blame the economic depression on marriage equality legislation pending in those states.  The ads were produced by Schubert Flint Public Affairs, the same hatemongers who managed the Yes On 8 Proposition 8 campaign in California.  Just as in California, the ads stress that marriage will be shoved down voters throats, “Whether we like it or not.”

One ad, backed by ominous music befitting a John Carpenter movie, darkly proclaims “Legalizing gay marriage has consequences for kids.”  Doesn’t that sound like an episode of Law & Order SVU?

Another ad is backed by an unnerving repeated beep that sounds like an EKG on the fritz in an ICU.  Someone could die!  The ad warns that if legislators pass a marriage equality bill, soon children “will be thinking the unthinkable.”  Not the unthinkable?!?!

What’s The Unthinkable you may ask?  A kid wondering, “If my dad married another man, who would my mom be?”   Let’s think about this for a second.  If your dad married another woman, your mother would be that person suing your dad for child support and alimony.  That’s not hard to figure out.  You know it wouldn’t be any different if your dad married another man.  Clearly the scariest thing about this ad is not gay marriage, but how stupid the kids are.

But seriously, this website is terrifying in its simplicity.  The ads are creepy and the actions are simple.  And while this may be one of the most fear and hate provoking websites out there, it’s still able to get away with criticizing Barney Frank for calling Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a homophobe.  The site actually asks visitors to send Barney Frank a message that, “Hate is not an American value. Stop the insults, Stop the childish Name-calling.”  Unbelievable.

Here’s some contact info for the ad’s creators and National Organization for Marriage.  Knock yourself out.
